The Biomedical Sciences program provides an opportunity for individuals aspiring to health science careers to become prepared for professional studies in medicine, education, or research. KCOM offers five research tracks in anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology/immunology, pharmacology, and physiology, as well as an education track in human anatomy. Students in the osteopathic medicine program also have the option of obtaining a dual D.O/M.S. degree in one of the research tracks.

Applicants must have received a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution prior to matriculation. Applicants must have achieved a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) both overall and for their science course work. Applicants must have completed one full academic year* or the equivalent in each of the following: English - 6 semester (9 quarter) hours. The student must be fluent in the oral and written use of English. An applicant from a foreign country must supply official documentation of a score of at least 500 (173 with the computer-based format) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam. Biology - 8 semester (12 quarter) hours. Course work must include a laboratory and a basic course in general biology or general zoology. Physics - 8 semester (12 quarter) hours. Must include a laboratory and cover the study of mechanics, sound, heat, magnetism, electricity, and light. General or Inorganic Chemistry - 8 (12 quarter) semester hours. Must include a laboratory. Organic Chemistry - 8 semester (12 quarter) hours. Must include a laboratory and cover the study of aliphatic and benzene compounds. College Algebra or higher - 3 semester (5 quarter) hours. Exceptions on required courses may be considered on an individual basis. Applicants are required to submit scores from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), or Dental Admission Test (DAT). Examination must have occurred within 3 years of application to the Biomedical Sciences program. # All applicants must submit a completed application form for the Biomedical Sciences program along with a nonrefundable application fee. To complete the application process, official transcripts of all previous college work and two letters of reference from college faculty must also be provided. Qualified applicants will be interviewed (telephone or on-campus) by members of the Graduate Program Committee as part of the final selection.

Complete the application form and return with a nonrefundable $60 application fee (check, credit card or money order) made payable to "ATSU-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine." Only U.S. currency will be accepted. The application fee is valid for one year from the application date. The application, all supporting documents, and fee must be postmarked by the program deadline, March 1st or until all seats are filled. Students generally enter the program in the week following July 4th (check with Admissions for exact date). If there are questions or difficulties in complying with the stated deadlines, please call the Office of Admissions at 1-866-626-2878, Ext. 2237. Deadlines for non-U.S. citizens and permanent residents are two months earlier than stated above for U.S. citizens.
