Completing my PhD in Chem Engg at Ohio University has been a great experience for me. My research program was offered by the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. I was able to save 6 months of study by applying directly to PhD, the credits of Masters wud be covered in the PhD coursework. That, if you ask me, is good money and time savedprovided you have the aptitude to work twice as hard ! The research was really gud over thr in this field. Also I was contacted by the prof himself from the uni, and I got a pretty good idea of the research programs going on there all this helped me make a decision regarding the study abroad.
Applying to universities is a painstaking process. You will have to give the usual exams like GRE, TOEFL etc. Good undergraduate scores plays a very important role as does a well written SOP.
I got a fellowship for my research.
The biomolecular option offered by the dept is designed to prepare students for employment in the biotechnology and biomedical industries as well as providing appropriate training for pre-medical students. We were offered good facilities and our professors were really a class apart. A very conducive atmosphere to focus on research.
Future growth for chemical engineering careers is expected to be especially strong in the biotechnology and biomedical sectors.
