Academic advice - have good scores, get admitted and I'm sure, you would be happy studying here.
I had GRE and TOEFL. I took coaching in Visu Coaching centre. F1 Visa is required, my visa experience was simple. Getting tickets was not so hard, I took Air India. Experience was good. I didn't get any student fare. I flew from India to Chicago, where the University is located. Baggage rules were 1 cabin bag, 2*23kgs luggage's allowed. I didn't face any immigration issues. Indian students later picked me up from airport.
Wonderful place to be in, my professors are very professional. Wonderful lecture Halls. Library is the place to be in during study purpose, as it's a wonderful resource for good number of books related to my subject. As it's a MS program, TA/RA is usually offered, but extremely hard to get them.
I'm staying in off-campus apartment. There are full sports facilities with a special sports center. No real worries of the place I live, no violence. Night life is pleasant. Weather - Winter - Snows a lot, Summer - extremely hot. Well the Indian association conducts time to time parties for international students so it's fun.
The placement cell is there in this University, which looks into job prospects, placement process in place. Work permit process as of now a bit hard, due to recession effects. As far as I know, there is no alumni society.
